The holiday season is by far my favorite time of the year. Everybody coming together to celebrate and spread joy makes all the craziness of the world settle for just a little bit of time. From Christmas lights to Santa’s Workshop, here are my family’s Colorado Christmas traditions.

Driving around and looking at Christmas lights

Who doesn’t enjoy looking at the beautiful Christmas lights in December? Here’s a list of the best neighborhoods around Boulder for viewing Christmas lights!

-Downtown Louisville and nearby houses

-Pearl Street Mall

-Martin Acres

-The Bandshell

-Mappleton

-Vista Pointe Neighborhood in Erie

Christmas In Color

The holidays are the perfect time to bring festivities and giving together. What better way to celebrate than a drive-through light show in the parking lot of Waterworld? A portion of the proceeds from the event goes to the Make A Wish Foundation. Get there early though as the line can take forever! Click here to learn more about this enchanting event.

Volunteering

I hope every one of you can find at least one service event or task you can complete during this season of giving. Locally there are many opportunities, but some of my family’s traditions are handing out coffee and food to the homeless population in Boulder or Denver and delivering a Christmas meal to a family with There With Care. No matter what cause you are passionate about, challenge yourself to get out there and give back. It is the best way to bring true joy and purpose to your life!

Santa’s Workshop

This childhood tradition brings back many memories from sitting on Santa’s lap to riding on the train. If you have little siblings or young ones in your life, bring them to the North Pole near Colorado Springs to give them a Christmas neither you nor they will forget!

Gaylord Rockies Christmas

A newly discovered Christmas gem, celebrating Christmas at the Gaylord Rockies resort in Denver is unforgettable. From ice skating to bumper cars to ice sculptures, this place is sure to bring out the inner child in you. Get your tickets ASAP as they sell out quickly and must be bought online

Ice Skating in Louisville

Come ice skate in Downtown Louisville and sip hot cocoa by the fire. Admissions only $10 and is open from November 23rd to the end of February. Treat yourself after to one of the coffee shops near the rink to warm up.

Holiday Candy/Chocolates

A tradition started by my grandma, making holiday candy and chocolates are an annual family tradition and perfect gift for loved ones. Every year we make peanut brittle, fudge, toffee, and peppermint bark and wrap them up in little goodie bags to hand out to teachers, neighbors, and family. Head to the store and get all the ingredients to get baking this holiday season. Of course the real recipes are family secrets…

Building Gingerbread Houses

This of course is one of my favorite holiday traditions! We go to Target or Walgreens, get a kit and extra candy/supplies and start getting creative. I love gingerbread houses because it is the perfect way to decorate your home for the Christmas season.

Parade Of Lights

With one in Louisville and Denver, the parade of lights is a lifelong tradition. From marching in it with my elementary school to dancing through it with my dance class, the parade of lights brings together the Boulder County community during these special times. Stay tuned for Covid updates!

Christmas Movies

Who doesn’t love Christmas movies around the holidays? Here’s my family’s Christmas movie watching guide…

Elf

Home Alone (1 and 2)

Polar Express

Barbie Nutcracker

Little Drummer Boy

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

A Christmas Carol

The Grinch

Christmas With The Kranks

Frosty The Snowman

The Santa Claus

Hopefully you can grab your loved ones and participate in one of these traditions in Colorado or wherever you call home. Spend some much deserved time with loved ones this holiday season and Happy Holidays!
