Dos and Don’t of Halloween Costumes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.

The week of Halloween parties is just around the corner and finding the perfect costume is essential! There are so many options that it’s nice to have a little help! Here are some quick Dos and Don’ts for your Halloween costume this year!

Do: Be original

If you want people to notice your outfit, think outside of the box! So many people will be dressed in silly, eye-catching costumes, so if you want to stand out, pick a costume that no one has seen before.

Don’t: Wear a cliché costume

We have all seen this costume a million times. Talk about boring! If you want to be a common character, then don’t buy it straight from the store! It’s almost guaranteed you’ll see someone wearing the exact same thing. It’s more fun when you put your own spin on it too – making it yourself can make the most cliché idea look original!

Do: Keep it classy

You don’t have to show all of your skin to turn heads at your costume party. You can dress to be noticed without baring it all, and the attention you will get will be much better! It’s Halloween – mystery is a good thing!

Don’t: Show all of your goods

Even though her music is all I can listen to, it’s safe to say that Miley Cyrus’s VMA performance left us with a bad taste in our mouth! Leave your Miley costume at home – or add a few more pieces of clothing!

Do: Be comfortable

No matter what look you’re going for – cute, sexy, funny, or unexpected – wear something you are going to feel good in! An outfit is not worth being in pain or worrying about having a costume malfunction! Halloween is all about having a good time – don’t let your costume be a burden! Make it a part of the fun! A “what does the fox say” inspired costume is perfect for a cozy, comfortable costume!
