2014 Panhellenic President Lauren McGreevy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Clemson chapter.
Get to know this years Panhellenic President Lauren McGreevy! She talks about what it means to be a sorority woman and her plans for Panellenic this year! You go girl!

What does Panhellenic Sisterhood mean to you?

Panhellenic Sisterhood to me is the 12 CPC Sororities on Clemson’s campus coming together for the greater cause. It’s often said that when you become a member of a Greek organization that you join something that is bigger than yourself. I believe that’s definitely true with your individual chapters but also with Panhellenic too. All CPC sororities are also Panhellenic sisters. We have a bond that unites us as Greeks. I believe here on Clemson’s campus we have a strong unity of Panhellenic sisterhood. We constantly support each other and truly want the best for our fellow Greeks.

What is your vision for Panhellenic this year?

Panhellenic is such an influential part of our Greek community but it is often forgotten by an average chapter member. I want to continue our efforts to be more visible around campus. To me that means being more visible at Philanthropy events, other councils’ events, non-greek organizations events, and even events in the Clemson community. Another vision I have for this year is focusing on positive motivation. It’s often in the Greek community that we encourage our members to follow certain guidelines, attend events, serve in our community, etc. and use negative consequences if these goals aren’t achieved. If we focus on rewarding rather than punishing, we’ll have more motivated members.

Whats your favorite thing about being a sorority women?

My favorite thing about being a sorority women is meeting the people I’ve been able to meet. Through my leadership experiences in Greek life and through my chapter I have met fabulous people that otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to meet. All of these people have been crucial in my growth in the past 3 years of college.

If you could alter one stereotype about sorority women what would it be?

I would alter the stereotype that sorority women pay for their friends. Sororities are just an opportunity for you to meet great people who have similar values and interests as you. I can not describe how meaningful it has been to my college experience to have had the opportunity to meet such fantastic women.
