Nick O’Hanlon: International Traveler, Local Inspiration

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

Name: Nick O’Hanlon

Major: Health Sciences, Pre-Physical Therapy

Year: Sophomore

Hometown: Dundee, Scotland; Chesterfield, VA; Westchester, OH

Relationship Status: Very much single!

Campus Involvement: Health Sciences Club Treasurer, Peer Leader, Volunteer with Good Samaritan Hospital

HC: So first, how do you have three hometowns?

NO: Well, I was born in Scotland but grew up in Chesterfield, VA. Even though my family moved to Westchester when I was 14, Dundee and Chesterfield are both still important to me too.

HC: That’s awesome. Where is your favorite travel destination, then?

NO: Hm, that’s a hard one. I’d have to say Valencia, Spain. My grandfather bought a home there to be closer to my uncle and his family. I visit him there every couple of years.

HC: That awesome. So other than traveling, what else do you do for fun?

NO: I love to run, especially to Eden Park. If you haven’t been there, you should check it out! It’s beautiful.

HC: I have, and it is! Would you say that’s your favorite date destination too then?

NO: No, there is a seafood restaurant on the Newport Levee that is great. And afterwards you can walk along the river and talk. That has probably been my favorite date to this point.

HC: Sounds romantic! Other than romantic, what are three words you would use to describe yourself?

NO: Ah, I don’t know… weird? I’ve never really thought about it. I’d have to say weird, kind-hearted… and considerate.

HC: Why those three?

NO:  For weird, I just have a very strange sense of humor and can appreciate anyone who can laugh with me. As for kind-hearted and considerate? I just really don’t like to be mean. I’ve been on the receiving end of some difficult situations and learned that it is just as important to consider the reasons for a person’s actions as it is to consider the actions themselves.

HC: That’s very thoughtful. On a different note, what is your dream job? Or your professional aspiration?

NO: Well, my dream job doesn’t really exist – I’m most passionate about both emergency medicine and about Physical Therapy, but the two don’t typically exist in the same setting – they’re just very different. Right now I’m in school for Physical Therapy, but I eventually intend to become a licensed paramedic as well.

HC: That’s very admirable. Who would you say has been your biggest role model then?

NO: Honestly, the first person that comes to mind is Jesse Katsopolis from Full House. I would LOVE to be him! In all seriousness though, probably Sanjay Gupta who is the chief medical correspondent for NBC. He gets to talk about medicine on national television, which is pretty awesome.

HC: Definitely. Going back to academics though, what would you say you like enjoy most about UC?

NO: The people I’ve met here, without question. They’ve made me a better person – both intellectually and socially.

HC: The people here are pretty great. In closing, what would you say your favorite moment has been since coming to college?

NO: Hm, probably the Cincinnati v. Louisville basketball game last year. It was the last game they played together in the conference and the atmosph

ere was magical. You could really feel the energy and the pride and the love for our school. It made me feel like I really belong here.

HC: Wow, yeah, I completely know what you mean. Finally, and maybe most importantly, who is your favorite Disney princess?

NO: Well, she’s not Disney, but I’d have to say Fiona. She rocks! She was the first princess who was different, and I like that!
