Dorm Cooking Series 101: Famous Chip Dip

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cincinnati chapter.

Chip dip is a must have at any party that has food. You probably have never been to a party without some sort of chip dip, whether it’s french onion, queso, buffalo chicken, or spinach artichoke dip, chips and dips are a food staple in any household across the United States. Here, I’m sharing a dip my mom made for pretty much any gathering in our household. If I had my way, I wouldn’t have let her take the dip to any family functions, and instead would have hidden it somewhere in the fridge and ate it all by myself. However, now that I’m old enough to read recipes and actually turn things into food rather than mush, I can make this dip for any party or anytime I feel like eating a whole bag of chips. So be warned, this stuff is easy and addicting.

Famous Chip Dip

8 oz. Cream cheese

1 can no bean Hormel chili

8 oz. cheddar cheese

1 medium onion diced (optional)

Spread softened cream cheese into 8 by 8 Pyrex dish

Spread the Hormel chili over it

sprinkle onion over the top

Layer with cheddar cheese

Microwave for 3 to 4 minutes

Serve with tortilla chips and eat it all :)
