Flashback Fridays: Past Trends that Should Make a Comeback

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Fashion today has recycled the look of the past decades, re-introducing pieces that we thought had passed along with the time. Instead of highlighting trends I would like to see make a comeback, this article will talk about my favourite trends that have started to make a reappearance and are slowly becoming more prominent in fashion this generation.

When you think of the 70’s you may think of the following: flared jeans, sweaters over shoulders, or those dreaded leisure suits.

But I’m here to put an end to these atrocious thoughts. I’m going to let you in on the fashion trends that have revived from the 70s and beyond that actually look amazing and are very hot on the runway right now.

The first piece I would like to show is the crop top. The crop top has been spotted everywhere in the past couple of seasons and is still going strong. This staple piece was infamous in the 70’s worn by all the hottest celebrities such as Britney Spears and Jennifer Love-Hewitt.

The second piece that has just recently been making a comeback in fashion, and which I really want to see more of, is the scrunchie. The scrunchie is such a fun piece, it’s cute and stylish, works great with almost anything, and can make a big statement on a causal outfit.

The ultimate and most fashion forward piece inspired by the 70’s this season, was the oversized blazer coat. This blazer coat creates a polished look without being too glamourous. They’re popping up everywhere from Dior to Valentino, each taking the jacket on a unique spin.

My fourth trend is the oh-so-popular choker from the 90s. This hot trend was once a large part of the past, however today we can see the choker in Brandy Melville and other fashion outlets around the globe. I personally loved the choker and had purchased a few when I was younger – so being able to pull them out from the depths of my dresser was quite satisfying!

My final trend that I really want to see make a comeback is long hair on men. I mean come on, Brad Pitt did it… This trend can give a man a more sophisticated type of look while also adding a little bit of edge as long as they keep it clean.
