Behind the Scenes of Her Campus Cal Lutheran

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

As a member of HCCLU, you really are involved with a lot of details that make the online magazine happen. However, I imagine one from an outside perspective doesn’t know what goes on to make all this happen, so here is a little insight into the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran world!

First we have the President/Campus Correspondent, Dani Kluss. Dani does everything! She is the contact liaison between our chapter and Her Campus Nationals. Dani also approves, denies, or alters budgets for projects, oversees reimbursements and dues collections, organizes deadlines and meetings, leads the All Chapter meeting, reviews and assesses our weekly website statistics, assigns projects to our Team Directors, and creates and manages everything in our Bible, the resources folder.

We also have several other Executive Members including Victoria Lahney (Vice President and Administrative Director), Andrea Lopez (Senior Editor), Bri Chase (Treasurer), Natalie Elliot (Writing Director), Kaitlyn Sloniker (Events Director), Cailey Kudrna (Social Media Director), Dakota Allen (PR Director), Heather Hooker (Recruitment Director), Kerry Sanchez & Christine Garret (Spirit Directors), Taylor Netter (Photography Director), Karie Portillo (Publicity Director), and Elaine Abarta (Assistant Publicity Director). All of the Exec Members make sure articles go up on time within the online forum, make sure we have a presence on social media, create fun events for the Her Campus community, and put together meetings for us to collaborate.

Each member is apart of one or more special teams. These teams are Writing, Editing, Photography, Event Planning, Social Media, Publicity, and Spirit. Each of these team’s members has deadlines they have to meet and meetings they have to attend and participate in. We also have monthly chapter meetings, where every team comes together and discusses important information that affects the club as a whole.

Not only do we just have meetings but we also do a lot of team bonding events too! This includes yoga in the park, movie nights, service events, BBQs, and Borderline nights. We also put on photo booths at most ASCLUG events here on campus!

“I joined Her Campus spring semester because my friend/coworker, Sara Martinez, wanted me to join. I was immediately wrapped into the club because of the girls and the work we do. I’m a Marketing Communication major in pursuits of being a PR agent, so Her Campus is also a nice resume builder. At the end of the semester, I submitted my application to be Head of Recruitment for HCCLU. I’ve loved working together with the other Executive Members over the summer to really bring a bang to our recruitment this fall. One of the new projects is the Big and Little System. I thought it would be really nice to pair returning members with new members. Not only does it add to the spirit and bonds created in the club, but it helps new members with different tasks associated with the separate teams. I’ve found that HCCLU can be one of the more time commitment clubs on campus, but the pay off is worth it since the work and events are notable– like I smile every time I see a Her Campus flyer because that is our work– and the friendships are amazing!” – Heather Hooker, Head of Recruitment for HCCLU, Sophomore at CLU.

“Her Campus has given me an outlet for my creativity and is a great place for my editing and photography skills to grow. It has also provided me with an awesome group of people I may have never gotten to know if it weren’t for the club.” – Amy Harger, Junior at CLU.

“Her Campus has allowed me the opportunity to express what I love to do. The photography team has given me a new avenue to express myself by taking and editing pictures. Being Photography Director has also given me a new sense of leadership and responsibility.” – Taylor Netter, Photography Director for HCCLU, Sophomore at CLU.

“Her Campus has given me a place of belonging and a sisterhood to take pride in. Being on the Event Planning Team has confirmed my desire of wishing to go into that field sometime in my future. I love the organization and set-up of the club overall and can see the impact is has on campus.” – Krystal Rhaburn, Sophomore at CLU.

Being a part of Her Campus has not only given me a group encompassed by amazing friendships, but it has also been amazing to witness the behind the scenes of such a successful online magazine.

As a freshman at California Lutheran, I am studying Education in the pursuit of becoming a elementary school teacher. I grew up in Arizona (beardown), but found myself going to school in California. I love spending time with family and friends.
