The team of Her Campus CofC is very unique and this week’s spotlight is on Taite Daisey. Taite is a freshman here at the College of Charleston, majoring in public health. She is well-rounded when it comes to staying fit and gorgeous, and has had some major accomplishments both here at CofC and prior to coming here.
Anna Trojanowska: What activities are you involved in on campus?
Taite Daisy: I’m involved in Greek Life [Sigma Kappa], Order of Omega, Running Club and Her Campus.
AT: Do you have any hobbies or play any sports?
TD: Yes, running and paddle boarding.
AT: What made you decide to participate in pageants?
TD: Mainly the scholarship opportunities and philanthropic service that comes with the pageants.
AT: How long have you been doing pageants?
TD: I have been doing pageants for about two years now.
AT: Congrats on winning Miss SC International recently! How was that experience overall?
TD: I was really surprised because South Carolina is such a competitive state for pageants. My favorite part is the interview, because I love talking–especially about my platform, which is ovarian cancer awareness.
AT: Are you planning on doing more pageants in the future?
TD: Probably not. I had the chance to be Miss Teen Delaware US and now Miss South Carolina, so it’s been a good run. Now I want to focus on applying to medical school.
AT: Are there any challenges that you’ve faced in the past with pageants?
TD: Pageants overall are a challenge. They definitely put you out of your comfort zone. To earn sponsors you need to fundraise. It can be kind of intimidating talking to businesses and asking them to help you. Also, the fact that you are on sage with 6-inch heels can be a little nerve-racking.
AT: What is one tip you’d give to anyone going into their first pageant?
TD: Have fun! That is the most important part. It doesn’t matter if you win or lose, just enjoy your time there. Judges are looking for a girl who is genuine and is enjoying herself.
