Female Masturbation: Lily Allen launches sex toy ‘The Liberty’ with Womaniser

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bristol chapter.

The British singer, songwriter and author Lily Allen has announced a collaboration with the German sex toy brand Womaniser. She took to Instagram and Twitter to let the world know and explained why she opted to collaborate with the brand. ‘Women shouldn’t be ashamed of their sexuality, and we all deserve to own our pleasure’, she posted.

Lily Allen has long been a ‘favourite’ of media outlets like The Sun and The Daily Mail, with frequent smear campaign articles and unsurprisingly, their reactions to the sex toy have been equally as damning. Allen explored her treatment by the media in her 2018 memoir ‘My Thoughts Exactly’, where she took a deep dive into her past and set the record straight.

The book is awfully funny and honest – from her apology to Cheryl Cole over their iconic and erratic feud and drugged up tales from the British music scene, but her writings on sex were particularly interesting. She writes about her early sexual encounters and how she struggled to reclaim her sexuality following abuse from the media. The brand Womaniser even got a shoutout, explaining she experienced orgasms with a couple of other sex toy brands, but ‘if you keep it going […] it will reward you with ten orgasms in a row’- so it’s no surprise she opted to collaborate with them. Allen also outlined past relationships.

The Lily Allen x Womaniser sex toy boasts an impressive six different intensity levels with pleasure air technology, a recent development in sex toys taking the industry by storm.

According the 2020 Womanizer survey, American men, on average, masturbate 244 times a year whilst American women only masturbate 98 times a year – and this doesn’t include the one third of women who don’t masturbate at all. For Allen and Womanizer, the gap is a direct result of a sexual society that is designed to benefit and serve the pleasure of cis men.

Seeing Allen on the top of the mountain after the long path of reclaiming her sexuality and now offering a hand to other women looking to do the same is incredible. In the press release she wrote, ‘I hope that this collaboration will lead to people feeling that they can talk more freely about masturbation, and if somebody like me can talk openly about it without shame then they might feel inclined to try it out for themselves- a whole new world awaits’. And if all of this isn’t enough, Allen is now Womanizer’s Chief Liberation Officer, where she will use her platform to promote women’s sexual pleasure and the power of masturbation.

P.S. The womaniser is available to buy via LoveHoney… oh, and they offer student discount.
