THANK U, NEXT?

Your ex? Is that the first thing that came to your mind after reading the title? Maybe yes, maybe no. Let me tell you the first thing that came to my mind – not my ex, but surely my next. This cute guy in my history class…I can’t begin to tell you about him.

Well, is that it though? This whole new empowering phrase of “Thank u, next” is just brought down to a cheesy concept of leaving your exes behind and focusing on new ones? Is that what a girl’s life has come down to: ‘pursuing next ones’? Initially, I thought the exact same way until I realized how many aspects of my life this statement is actually applicable to.

It’s kind of funny that I am choosing to dissect the meaning of “the breakup anthem” in my very first article. However, “Thank u, next?” helped me address all of my concerns at once, right from my not so attractive GB 112 grades to our current president’s face. Yes, I’m telling you it works! And I’m telling you that if it can do what the entire nation wants, than it surely can do much more to change our lives by letting go whatever is holding us back.

“Thank u, next” in just three syllables perfectly explains this intellectual quote “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Ariana made it really easy for us, didn’t she? In this whole new year of 2019, I wish we can all finally stop focusing on things that we owe a ‘Thank you’ to and start focusing on where we are going for ‘next’.  But obviously not in terms of some cute guy in your history class – go a step further in your career goals, in accepting flaws, in preaching self-love, and evolving so that the next u is the better u.
