How to Prepare for Finals

Whether we like it or not, finals are creeping up on us. After the glorious Pancake Jam, we’ll be in our rooms staring at our laptop screens or actually putting our head in a textbook trying to relearn all of Chemistry in one night. So, here are five golden tips to get you through finals!

  1. Set goals! Agnes abides by the self-scheduled exam rule so take time to understand and grasp the content you need to. Set a time and day in which you will study for a subject. This is super handy when you have multiple exams.

  2. Focus! As distracting food or Netflix may be, you have to dedicate all of your energy into the subject. It may seem like a draining process but don’t worry, the sooner you get it over with, the better.

  3. Group study! If you have an actual exam that you need to take, and if group studies are your thing, then go for it. Even if you all are not studying for the same exam, it may be helpful so that you can encourage each other to keep studying or writing.

  4. Sleep! Schedule yourself some time to take a nap here and there. If you’re pulling an all-nighter then it won’t be as effective as getting a good night sleep and studying in the morning (studies show). In an Huffington Post article, scientists discuss that students who get an average (7.5-8hr) sleep performed 10% higher than those who lacked sleep! The article also alludes to Dr. Maas, who focuses on sleep research, and in his interview the general idea is that sleep deprivation causes lack of energy throughout the day, which is unhealthy for the mind and body. Sleep deprived zombies are not in season (contrary to movies).

  5. Treat yourself! After a long day of studying, writing papers, or even finally finishing all your exams/papers, treat yourself to something nice. You deserve that pint of ice cream you’ve been eyeing in Mollie’s freezer.
