A Shrine to Vne

January 17th 2017 felt like any other day, until...

In case you weren’t aware, January 2020 will mark the 3-year anniversary of the internet’s holy grail social media platform, Vine, closing its doors. If you somehow didn’t get to experience the beauty of this app, first of all I’m sorry, and secondly it was basically a video sharing app where people would past 6-second clips for the whole world to enjoy. You could get covers, cooking tips, emotional fandom edits, or even comedy skits. Some creators could fit a lot into 6 seconds, sometimes to our dismay.

Vine even managed to kick-start and further some careers, from the disappointments that are Nash Grier and Gabbie Hannah, to the icon that is Jay Versace. Also, Shawn Mendes got his big start on Vine, and he’s selling out arenas across the world and being just a genuinely amazing guy. Basically, Vine did it all.

Despite dying off almost as quickly as it rose to fame, Vine still has a big cultural significance in modern society. There are so many iconic vines that if you start to quote, most people could probably join in. In memory of the cultural icon that was Vine, I created a shrine of a small collection of my favourite Vines for you to watch whenever you feel like you fancy a laugh, you’re welcome.
