A woman was recently recorded at San Francisco State University fighting with a man, angered by his dreadlocks because he was caucasian. The video, posted below, shows the woman angrily confronting the man, saying that his hair was from her culture, and not his. He replies to this by telling her that dreadlocks were also worn in Egypt, and says, “Are you Egyptian? Nah.”
She continued to harass the man, pulling at him as he tries to leave, and telling him, “You put your hands on me, you’re going to learn.” It’s at this point that the woman notices the person filming the entire situation, and tells them to stop.
The video, when originally posted, stated in the title that the woman was an employee of San Fransisco State University, according to The Huffington Post. This, evidently, caused some controversy. This past Tuesday, the university made a public announcement stating that the woman is in fact not an employee of the school.

The man, apparently Cory Goldstein, has responded in a video interview. He says that he doesn’t think his dreadlocks are cultural appropriation because dreadlocks are “universal” and that his hairstyle comes from a place of “love and respect.”
