The White House Has a New Chief of Staff, & the Mooch Is No Longer Communications Director

Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump removed Anthony Scaramucci, aka the Mooch, from his role as White House communications director, according to The New York Times. He’d held the job for just 10 days. And earlier this morning, John Kelly was sworn in as President Trump’s new chief of staff. This comes on the heels of the recent departure of former chief of staff, Reince Priebus, according to USA Today. Priebus’s departure was announced in true Trump fashion, with a series of tweets Friday afternoon, immediately followed by the announcement of Kelly as his replacement.

What the heck happened!?

Last Thursday, Scaramucci ranted to Ryan Lizza, a New Yorker reporter, about Reince Priebus, the now-former chief of staff, and threatened to fire the White House communications team. According to the Times, the new chief of staff, John Kelly, requested that Scaramucci be removed from his position as communications director.

Speaking of the new chief of staff—who is he? John Kelly is a retired United States Marine Corps general and served as the commander of the United States Southern Command for four years under former president Barack Obama. He’s slated to bring order to what many believe is a dysfunctional White House—if that’s even possible. In case you needed a refresher, it’s been quite the month for the Trump Administration. Press Secretary Sean Spicer stepped down, President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner appearing before the House Intelligence CommitteeTrump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions are in some sort of feud, and the battle to repeal and replace Obamacare before August recess is clearly not going to happen.

According to CNN, Trump told reporters, “We will proceed and we will keep going but we have a fantastic leader, chief of staff, he is going to do a really great job.” Despite the apparent circus show happening in the White House, Trump is certain all is well and even tweeted his optimism to the American people earlier this morning, declaring “No WH chaos!”

In the meantime, Chief of Staff John Kelly will begin work, and all we can do is hope for the best on Pennsylvania Avenue.
