Veggie Haters Can Now Stir Broccoli into Their Coffee & Pretend It’s Not Even There

Do you just hate vegetables? Well, now there’s a way to get the benefits of greens without having to eat them.

In Australia, government science agency CSIRO teamed up with Hort Innovation, an agriculture group, to create powdered broccoli. According to the Guardian, the broccoli that is used to make the powder looks imperfect in its appearance so it wouldn’t quite sell in stores anyway. The powder was developed as part of a research project that aims to reduce vegetable waste by creating healthy food products from “ugly” produce. In the United States alone, 60 million tons of food waste is produced every year, so should the project be a success, those numbers could go down.

Each serving of the powder (two tablespoons) is equal to one serving of broccoli, and the powder is packed with benefits like fiber, vitamin B6, vitamin E, and manganese. The powder can be stirred into any drink.

Most dietary guidelines say that adults should consume somewhere between 2-3 cups of vegetables per day but according to a 2017 study by the CDC, only 9.3% of American adults are eating the recommended amount of vegetables.

A Melbourne based coffee shop recently started putting some of the powder into their coffees. Here is what they look like.
