A Northwestern Professor Is Wanted for Murder After Allegedly Stabbing a Man to Death in Chicago

A Northwestern University professor and a University of Oxford employee currently have warrants out for their arrest after they allegedly stabbed a man to death in his Chicago apartment. Police believe they might have fled Illinois, which means the search for the two suspects will only intensify.

Wyndham Lathem, the 42-year-old Northwestern professor, and Andrew Warren, 56, are wanted for first-degree murder after police were called to 26-year-old Trenton Cornell-Duranleau’s apartment building due to an anonymous tip received by the apartment’s doorman, according to TIME. Police reportedly found Cornell-Duranleau’s body at the scene, and the medical examiner’s office say the cause of death was “multiple sharp force injuries.” The two suspects were caught on surveillance videos leaving the apartment shortly after the crime was committed. The motive behind the stabbing has not been released by police.

Lathem, who is an associate professor of microbiology-immunology at Northwestern’s Chicago campus, has been placed on academic leave by the university as the investigation takes place. Warren, a senior treasury assistant at Somerville College, had only been in the U.S. for a few days—he was on his first trip to the U.S. from England. Both universities are willing to help with the investigation in any way they can.

Hopefully the two men turn themselves in soon.
