Boston Marathon Bombings: How to Help

Horrific events like the one we experienced on Marathon Monday here in Boston are almost impossible to understand. Those of us lucky enough to have survived without injury often find ourselves looking for ways to help those less fortunate. There are many fundraising pages that have been posted by the loved ones of the injured. We have compiled them here. If you know of a fundraising page that we missed, please email me at windsor@hercampus.com and we will update our listing.

Fund for Adrienne and Adam

Adrianne Haslet and her husband Adam Davis were both severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombing. They were enjoying a beautiful day off together. Adam just returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan a couple of weeks ago and Adrianne was on her normal day off from her work as a Dance Instructor at the Boston location of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. The day turned to tragedy for so many, as we all know. We want to show Adrianne and Adam that their friends and loved ones are here for them and will support them through the pain and suffering.

Help for Patrick and Jess

On April 15, 2013 Patrick and Jess both sustained severe leg injuries after one of the bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This GiveForward page has been created by friends of theirs in order to give friends and family a place to post comments of love and support. We are also asking those who feel comfortable to leave a donation that will go towards the medical bills and out-of-pocket costs associated with both of their surgeries and rehabilitation.

Ann + Eric Whalley Recovery Fund

Ann (65) and Eric Whalley (65) are longtime Massachusetts residents who were severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombings on April 15, 2013. As of April 17, Ann is currently in the ICU with numerous severe external wounds but in stable condition. Eric has suffered brain trauma and damage to his legs, and will need several follow up operations including a serious neurological operation later this week at Brigham & Women’s hospital. Their two sons, Chris (34) and Rich (25), are with them at the hospital and doing everything they can to support their parents. The Whalley family has a long road ahead of them physically and emotionally as they recover together from this horrible tragedy. As friends of the Whalley family, we are raising a recovery fund to help ease the financial burden of this devastating incident on the family. All funds raised will be go directly to the Whalley family to assist with expenses related to this tragedy. Please help spread the word and donate if you can.

Recovery for Brittany

An ambitious student, Brittany will graduate from Boston College with a dual degree in Law and Business (JD/MBA) in May. She is a beautiful, caring individual with a heart of gold. We all cannot wait to watch her walk down the aisle when she and her fiancé, John, get married in the fall.
