New Years Eve Expectations vs Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Framingham chapter.

New Year’s Eve, the night that can be filled with fun, drinks, friends, and excitement for the New Year. Or it can be filled with boredom and disappointment. It’s safe to say we all have certain expectations about New Year’s Eve that are pummeled by a reality check that we’re aware of now that it’s (finally) over.

Expectation: All of the invites. You’ve been trying to narrow down the Facebook invitations options for weeks. Which party to choose?!

Reality: Slim pickings, honestly. Some friends went away with family, some friends are with people you don’t know, some friends you don’t even hear from. You could go to a party where you know one person, go to a crowded, expensive bar, or stay home with the folks who will be in bed by 10pm.

Expectation: Wearing the most sparkly dress the world has ever seen.

Reality: Wearing the most comfortable PJs the world has ever seen.

Expectation: Everything will go according to plan! It will be the most perfect night!

Reality: Where is our Uber?? Why is there a $30 cover charge for this bar? It’s too cold! Where did Sarah go?! Is she throwing up again?

Expectation: Meeting the perfect person to kiss at midnight

Reality: Kissing your half asleep SO, kissing your pet, hugging your fellow single friends – All still awesome, if not better!

Expectation: New year, new me! 2018 will be completely different! I’m going to keep my resolution!

Reality: LOL good one.
