HC Abroad: Halloween, London Visitors, and Travel Plans

Good morning Collegiettes™! Hope your Thursdays are off to a great start! How was your Halloween weekend? Did you do anything fun to celebrate? What costumes did you decide on? My friends dressed up as pirates and black cats and spent the night dancing at The Penthouse, a 3-story club on the top of a building in central London. It was a great night! And to top if off, Megan, one of my best friends from back home in Connecticut, came to London to help celebrate the festivities! Megan is spending the semester studying in Florence and decided to come to London to catch up, go sightseeing, and try out Britain’s infamous fish n’ chips for the week of her fall break. It’s so nice having a friend from home to hang out with!

Luckily I’ve been able to squeeze in some time between internship interviews and classwork to show Megan around the city and take her to some of my favorite spots! This past Tuesday we spent the afternoon walking along Regents Canal, checking out the shops in my neighborhood, and grabbing lunch at Towpath Cafe before it closes for the winter this upcoming weekend. As soon as I get out of class this afternoon, Megan and I are planning on walking over to Borough Market and stopping by the Tate Modern! I’m really looking forward to a relaxing afternoon of walking, eating, and art! We haven’t confirmed our plans for tonight but we thought it might be fun to go see a show (possibly Legally Blonde) and grab a post-theatre dinner to celebrate Megan’s last night in London. Any suggestions for plays?

I’m also really looking forward to this upcoming weekend because I’m going to be heading to Zurich to visit another friend from high school who I haven’t spent time with in years!! Furthermore, following this weekend, I’ve planned a trip to Prague to visit my friend Sarah who I used to play lacrosse with throughout recruiting years. Finally, (saving the best for last) my Mom is coming to visit me in London the week before Thanksgiving!! Word can’t even begin to explain how excited I am to show my Mom around and spend some time catching up in person! Thus far our plans include 3 amazing dinners (the family I babysit for recommended all three of the restaurants), afternoon tea, a nighttime theatre production (debating whether we should see Jersey Boys or Les Miserable), and a whole lot of walking around the city!!

I’ll make sure to fill you all in on my upcoming trip to Zurich in next Thursday’s post! Have an amazing weekend!

Love,
Marissa

P.S. Which theatre showing would you rather see: Jersey Boys or Les Miserable?
