Collegiettes Weigh In: What They Love Most About Their Schools

With over two thousand colleges and universities in America, you might have a tough time narrowing down your list of schools to apply to or picking which one to attend. To help you out with your decision, the HC Team weighed in with what they love most about their schools:

Academic Opportunities

“I appreciate how many opportunities there are to explore the world of broadcast journalism. If it weren’t for the project-based classes, advanced equipment, and extracurricular opportunities at Emerson, I wouldn’t have discovered what I enjoyed (and more importantly, didn’t enjoy) doing.” – Nikki Fig, Her Campus Editorial Intern and Campus Branch Manager, Emerson College ’11

“Le Moyne’s small class sizes allow me to have more one-on-one time with my professors.” – Omariys Rodriguez, Her Campus Le Moyne Campus Correspondent, Le Moyne College ’12

Location

“Northeastern is in a great city (Boston) and they have a fantastic co-op program!” – Brooke Kamenoff, Her Campus High School Ambassador Director, Northeastern University ’15

“I love that my school is in the heart of Boston. Everything I need is right here!” – Krista Evans, Her Campus Simmons Campus Correspondent, Simmons College ’12

“We’re located in the middle of nowhere and, consequently, have a very low crime rate. I like that I can safely walk home late at night by myself if I need to.” – Rebekah Meiser, Her Campus Ohio University Campus Correspondent, Ohio University ’11

Atmosphere

“Towson really has that “small school” mentality within a big school. It’s small enough that you see the same people in your classes every day, but you’re also constantly meeting new people.” – Alexandra Pannoni, Her Campus Towson Campus Correspondent, Towson University ’13

“I love the whole atmosphere of UMass. It’s a big school, so I can go to class without seeing everyone I know, or having someone whisper in my ear, “Did you hear what she did last night?” about a girl walking by. I love our campus and the whole town of Amherst has that great college town feel. We have sports teams to watch every weekend, and while some may be deterred by its size, I can assure you it gets a whole lot smaller once you make your friends – all while allowing you to meet new people!” – Caroline Bagby, Her Campus UMass – Amherst Campus Correspondent, University of Massachusetts – Amherst ’11

Student Body

“We are a combination of Glee and Will and Grace. We have a good collection of kids who have dreams and goals… and work their asses off for them. The rest waste a few hundred grand and are high most of the time.” – Jake Duhaime, Her Campus PR Specialist, Emerson College ’08

“JMU is also known for our polite students. No matter where you are on campus, you will always have a door held for you, and I love that! It also doesn’t hurt that we’re ranked in the top five in the nation for our on-campus food!” – Rachel Petersen, Her Campus James Madison Campus Correspondent, James Madison University ’11

“I love how much of a family WVU is. That might sound crazy, considering there are almost 30,000 students, but whenever you bump into someone in a WVU shirt or hear a WVU cheer, you know that they’re part of WVU’s family. That’s what makes our school feel like a true home away from home!” – Kelsey Cummings, Her Campus Publicity Team Member, West Virginia University ’12

“My favorite aspect of CSU is the student body and the town of Fort Collins. The students and residents are so friendly, which you don’t see very often, especially in cities. There is a great sense of camaraderie here and I felt I immediately fit in.” – Meagan Templeton-Lynch, Her Campus Contributing Writer, Colorado State University ’12

“My favorite thing about Emmanuel is that it’s one big family. That may sound super clichéd, but it’s true. Everyone knows everyone, and that’s to your benefit.” – Ali Nigro, Her Campus Emmanuel Campus Correspondent, Emmanuel College ’11

“Because it’s a commuter campus, Kean is very diverse and has all sorts of interesting people.” – Stephanie Musat, Her Campus Kean Campus Correspondent, Kean University ’11
