Pregnancy is such a sacred time for women considering that there’s a life growing inside their bodies. Many women decide to spend their pregnancy with close friends and loved ones, and Kylie Jenner was no exception. The beauty mogul and reality star kept her pregnancy very hush from social media.

At only 20 years old, Kylie has a massive following that’s used to keeping up (no pun intended) with her via social media and on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. On February 1, Kylie gave birth to an eight-pound and nine-ounce baby girl.

The new mom shared her news with two Instagram posts, one with an announcement explaining why she kept her journey private and the other with a short clip of her pregnancy journey. Kylie stated, “I understand you’re used to me bringing you along on all my journeys. My pregnancy was one I chose not to do in front of the world. I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. There was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness.”

I am extremely proud that the young mom decided to keep this journey private. Yes, Kylie is a public figure and one of the aspects of being famous is having to be in the spotlight. However, she does have the power to select what parts of her life she wants to share and what parts she wants to keep confidential. The beauty mogul has been in front of cameras since she was nine and has been sharing her life ever since. It seems to me that Kylie wanted to cherish this experience and not focus on the opinions of people that don’t know her on a personal level.

After she experienced pregnancy and delivered her baby girl, she releaseed an intimate 11-minute video showing the whole journey with clips from her baby shower to the delivery room. Watching the video, I felt like I went through the journey with Kylie because she gave the video such an emotional touch through interviews of her friends and family. For example, in the video, Jordyn Woods explains to the baby girl, “When you’re 20 years old, you’re figuring out your life. You don’t know what you want. You’re an indecisive teen becoming an adult, but there was one thing your mom knew for sure, and that was you.” When I heard Jordyn say that I almost burst into tears. The video also talks about how Kylie found out about her pregnancy and who she shared the news with first.

People have opinions and energies toward the Kardashians whether they be positive or negative. Kylie, a human being, deserves to block out the world and focus on her bundle of joy and spending time as a family with her boyfriend Travis Scott. She already showed how wonderful of a mother she is by deciding that she wanted to surround herself with pure and loving energy. Moreover, she could have sold her story or did a highly publicized interview, but she decided to focus on keeping her baby healthy, taking care of her mental health and making sure the baby entered the world with love.

Being a mother means having to make decisions that are best for the baby and for the mother. Kylie made the right decision to share her life with the people she wanted to and put social media on the back-burner.

Today she can still be found furiously tapping away at her laptop keys and producing content for the internet. In her spare time she enjoys reading books (before watching their Netflix or movie adaptions), running for fun (yes, it can be fun) and spending time with her friends and family.
