Those of you who are watching Nick’s season of The Bachelor know that America is falling head over heels for contestant Rachel Lindsay. What’s not to love about her? She’s a confident attorney—not to mention she’s drop-dead gorgeous! There’s no question in our minds that she should follow in JoJo’s footsteps as the next Bachelorette.
In a recent podcast interview on Vinny Ventiera’s podcast “Wrong Reasons,” former Bachelorette contestant Wells Adams said that America might not be able to embrace a black Bachelorette. Wells, as well as Chase McNary, mentioned that America has seen a last-minute switch up in the bid for Bachelorette before. After Ben Higgin’s season, everyone thought Caila Quinn was going to find her own love in Season 12, which was especially newsworthy since she is half-Filipino. At the last minute, there was a switch, and JoJo Fletcher—who is half-Iranian, btw—was announced as the Bachelorette.
“Remember, we all thought it was Caila, and that was exactly what they were trying to do—that was diversity being the forefront,” Adams said. “And then they kind of took stock of how America felt about it, they kind of leaked that information, and they realized America wasn’t super-pumped about that choice. Regardless of the diversity issue, it might’ve just been they didn’t really love her personality or persona. But when they found out it was JoJo, people were very excited about that.”
The two also jokingly said that Corinne would probably be announced as the next Bachelorette because they think it’s something the producers would likely do.
“I think the franchise wants to so badly break out of its cookie-cutter, white-person shell, but I don’t think that America will embrace it, sadly enough,” he said. “And I think what they’re going to do is, it will be misdirection. I think it’s going to be…Rachel, and then at the last second, they’ll have Corinne.”
We can’t speak for the entirety of Bachelor Nation, but we’re ready for the show to give us a diverse lead and Rachel seems like the perfect fit.
