Selena Gomez & Julia Michaels’ New Song ‘Anxiety’ Gets Personal

Selena Gomez is back to releasing new music! Her latest song, “Anxiety,” is with Julia Michaels, and was released on Thursday as part of Michael’s new EP, Inner Monologue Part 1.

Michaels told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 on Apple Music that she thought it’d be “really awesome to have a song with two women on it that struggle with the same thing, that are talking about something other than two women fighting for a guy’s attention.”

When she sent Selena the song, Michaels said she was “so into” it. “And that’s how that whole thing happened, really. And I’m just so grateful that she’s on it and I’m so grateful that the song’s gonna be out,” Michaels said. “It’s just a way into the mind of someone that has anxiety and has these struggles for someone that doesn’t understand it.”

“Feel like Ι’m always apologizing fοr feeling/Like Ι’m οut of my mind/When Ι’m doing just fine,” Gomez sings on the track. “And my exes all say that Ι’m hard tο deal with/Αnd I admit it, it’s true.”

Both Selena and Michaels also describes their friends not knowing what it’s like to experience what they do. “They don’t understand why, I can’t sleep through the night/And I thought that I could take something to fix it/Damn I wish it, I wish it was that simple,” they sing.

Selena shared a photo of her and Michaels on Thursday to celebrate the song’s release. “My sweet soul sister. Julia you have been a huge part of my life. You have taught me how to have courage when I have self doubt,” she wrote on Instagram. “This song is extremely close to my heart as I’ve experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You’re never alone if you feel this way. The message is much needed and I really hope you guys like it!”

Selena has been open about her struggles with anxiety and depression, which she sought treatment for toward the end of last year.
