Prince Charles Will Now Walk Meghan Markle Down The Aisle

In light of of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding, there has been a whirlwind of news surrounding the future royal bride’s walk down the aisle. Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, who was supposed to walk his daughter down the aisle, is reportedly no longer attending the wedding due to a recent heart attack. Kensington Palace released a statement earlier today saying that Meghan has now asked her soon-to-be father-in-law, Prince Charles, to walk her down the aisle. “Ms. Meghan Markle has asked His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to accompany her down the aisle of the Quire of St George’s Chapel on her Wedding Day. The Prince of Wales is pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way,” the statement read.

He will only walk with her halfway, though. Yes, that’s correct, halfway. The other half Meghan will do by herself, which actually is untraditional among royal brides. “[It is] unprecedented, as far as I’m aware, for a royal bride to walk herself halfway up the aisle, but this is the wedding of twists and turns,” Royah Nikkhah, a Royal Contributor told CBS. I am LIVING for this.

She will reportedly be joined by her bridesmaids and page boys for this portion of the walk.

As for Meghan’s father, she has requested that he receive space after all of the attention her family was getting over the debate of his attendance. “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health,” Meghan said in a statement from Kensington Palace. “I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.” She seriously seems like the sweetest woman ever.

As unfortunate as it is to not have her father present, I am happy to see that Meghan will have someone like Prince Charles walk her down the aisle. I am even more excited to see she’s making history by walking a portion of the aisle on her own.

Harry and Meghan’s Royal Wedding is so soon—like tomorrow soon—and I can’t wait to watch it all unfold.
