Tiffany Haddish, hilarious comedy queen and breakout star of the summer 2017 movie Girls Trip, is hosting this year’s MTV Movie and TV Awards. She is the first black woman to host the awards show ever.
MTV announced the news on Thursday, and Haddish announced it herself on Instagram with a video message.
It’s so fun and rewarding to watch people who have worked hard get the success they deserve. Specifically, it’s fun to watch Haddish succeed. I’ve personally been following her since she appeared on VH1 countdown specials like 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and Undateable at the beginning of the decade.
She had an amazing 2017 and her 2018 is already looking even better. Right now she’s promoting her book, The Last Black Unicorn. Her press junkets over the summer for Girls Trip were hilarious and adorable, and the episode she hosted of Saturday Night Live was iconic. She joked in her monologue about wearing a white Alexander McQueen dress that “cost more than (her) mortgage” more than once. Maybe she’ll wear it again to host the show?
Regardless, I know she’ll do an amazing job and will help get audiences accustomed to the new changes MTV is trying to make — this is the second year that the awards have included television categories. The show has also made its award categories gender-neutral.
You go, Tiffany!
The awards will air June 18.
