‘Legally Blonde 3’ Is Officially in the Works & OMG

OMG: over 17 years after Elle Woods taught us all the magic of bending and snapping, Legally Blonde 3 is officially in the works.

As Entertainment Weekly reports, the writers of the original Legally Blonde movie have confirmed that Elle Woods will be returning to our screens a third time — and because absolutely no one could play our fave Harvard Law student quite like Reese Witherspoon, the actress is expected to sign a deal to star in and produce the movie through her production company Hello Sunshine (which was responsible for our faves like Big Little Lies, so you *know* it’s going to be good).

While there aren’t too many details just yet (and it’s yet to be confirmed who will be directing) the movie will reportedly lean toward the same tone of the first one, with strong themes of female empowerment — and plenty of pink, if we had to guess. Since the movie’s sequel was written and directed by a different team than the OG, it’s also unknown whether the third movie will pick up where the sequel left off.

As Cosmo notes, Reese has already talked publicly about what she’d love to see Elle Woods doing 15 years after proving herself at Harvard Law — and it may be a hint at what’s to come.

“I think it would be kind of cool to see her, 15 years later,” she told James Corden last year. “Like, what’s she doing now? … But I need a good idea. She could be a Supreme Court justice or she could be like a really great, powerful attorney or she could be in prison. She could be anything!”

Isn’t that the truth? Wherever she is now, we’re long overdue for an Elle Woods comeback.
