The SNOWPOCALYPSE is here!

Boston’s irritatingly mild winter has been getting to me. While everyone is talking about how lucky we are to escape the cold, I continue to boast about how much I love snow and how I’d give anything to get some. Well, my mom was right– I should be careful what I wish for. Because this morning I woke up to find Jack Frost vacationing in Boston… and let me just say – he is NOT a happy camper. And thus began the SNOWPOCALYPSE 2010.

I only took one step outside, wearing my longjohns, jeans, a tank top, a shirt, a sweater, a scarf, gloves, my knee-length down coat with a big furry hood and my trusty Uggs (my biggest mistake), before I wiped out. Laughing it off, while giant snowflakes flew into my eyes and stuck into my hair, I braced myself to get up.

Wishful thinking.

I slipped again and went down flatter than a pancake.

Third time’s the charm, and I made my way to an upright position, this time taking TWO steps before eating pavement.

Thus continued my excruciatingly long mile journey to work. About halfway there, I remembered one of my very successful tricks from the past two winters I’ve had to endure. Since Uggs offer absolutely NO traction whatsoever, I’ve found it to be more efficient to skate down the sidewalk rather than trudgingly walk/fall the whole way. So I took off gliding down Com Ave (clearly increasing my cool-factor and thus doing loads for my social life).

While vowing to rip off my Uggs and burn them at the first chance I got, I noticed the girls walking by me. It’s times like these when I wonder where in the world I go to school. I wish I were kidding when I tell you that tons of girls strutted right past me on their way to 9am class in mini skirts and black heels, sporting lace-thin leg warmers as their only suggestion to an even mildly chill temperature.

I eventually made it to work at the College of Communication’s Dean’s Office where I immediately got onto JuicyCouture.com. While I’ve been eying their adorable igloo boots all season, I’ve been dragging my feet (no pun intended) on the purchase since this time of year is especially hard on my bank account. But I couldn’t go any longer without them. My ugly, traction-less Uggs have been a waste of space and now I have the world’s cutest, most trustworthy winter boots being expedited to me from Juicy!
For anyone else who has been fighting the same winter disasterland as me, I HIGHLY recommend checking them out!

And just for fun… here are some pictures of me in my first snowstorm freshman year of college! I got so excited running around playing, er, snow games (is that what you call them?) that I ripped my pants right down the seam!

My name is Maura Murphy and I am a junior at Boston University with a working major in advertising. I am a sister in Delta Gamma and, more recently, one of the three new Juicy sisters! I love Juicy Couture because the brand is fashionable but unique, which fits my personality perfectly. I like to fit in, but I also like to stand out and Juicy apparel helps me to look my finest at all times while doing just that. My interests include traveling, shopping and cooking. I am an avid Boston Celtics fan and played basketball for 11 years. I am outgoing, adventurous and passionate. I adore getting dressed up and hitting the town, but also love the nights in with my roommates, spent watching Friends in our pajamas. Gale Sayers once said, “I learned that if you want to make it bad enough, no matter how bad it is, you can make it." I use this quote to focus on the goals I have in life and how to achieve them. I believe that despite any obstacle life throws at you, passion and determination can drive you to the top, so long as you are willing to work for success. That’s all I have for now, but if you’d ever like to know more – just ask! Ciao, Maura
