Since November, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez have been, shall we say, enjoying each other’s company after their years-long breakup. While never publicly confirming their rekindled romance, the singers have been spotted time and again over the past few months as a happy, healthy couple.
But as expected with these two, they’re on the ropes once again. The recent rumor is that the disapproval of Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefy, has a bit to do with it but that isn’t the case at all. Although Teefy has made it clear in the past that Bieber wouldn’t be her first choice for her daughter, she has since said that she trusts Gomez to make her own decisions.
“Selena can live her life however she wants as long as she is happy, safe and healthy,” she said in an interview.
Sources have since confirmed that the couple is taking some time apart, but that this happens often. “They’ve been having disagreements, but it wouldn’t be surprising if they’re back together in a week,” a source told People.
In fact, although Gomez wasn’t seen with Bieber on his birthday, an insider confirmed that they spent the day before together.
Even more, Bieber’s involvement with Gomez isn’t the first thing to drive the mother and daughter duo apart. In 2014, Teefy was booted from her managerial duties for Gomez, and the two have had a hard time staying civil for quite some time.
“It’s more complicated than just fighting over a guy,” a source revealed. “Mandy and Selena have had their ups and downs before. This isn’t the first time.”
While Gomez is giving her mom space, she is doing her best to mend the relationship. “They didn’t talk for a while. They’re not hanging out together, but they’ve been communicating,” a source said.
