Starbucks’ Evolution Fresh Launched A New Line Of Organic Kombucha

For a while now, kombucha has been a trendy health food around the world. The popularity of kombucha has grown so much you can see it pretty much everywhere by a so many different brands. It was only a matter of time before Starbucks followed suit.

Evolution Fresh, which is owned by Starbucks, launched a new line of the fermented tea in six flavors.

Kombucha is a tea-based drink. It’s a combination of tea, sugar, and active starter culture of bacteria and yeast, according to Shape. The culture is then combined and fermented with black or green teas, while bacteria grows.  Don’t worry, it’s the good kind of bacteria known as probiotics that will help improve stomach health and make the bad bacteria back off.  Shape reports that experts believe kombucha can help fight colds, lower cholesterol, and ease irritable bowel syndrome.

The fermentation process can cause kombucha to have have a sour, almost vinegar-like taste. Sounds pretty gross doesn’t it? Brands tend to combine fruits and spices to give the drink a sweet flavor, which is what Starbucks Evolution Fresh bottled line did.

All of the flavors definitely sound refreshing. There’s Ginger Lemon Honeycrisp, Ginger Greens, Spicy Greens, Pink Grapefruit, and Turmeric Pineapple Coconut. According to the press release, the drinks will include Evolution Fresh cold-pressed juices, and will be sold in 15.2 ounce glass bottles.

The release notes that Starbucks began with “carefully selected artisanal teas” that were fermented and matched with Evolution Fresh juices. Every flavor are certified USDA Organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and Kosher.

As of right now, Evolution Fresh Kombucha will be available in grocery retailers across 7 major cities: Boston, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Seattle.  I don’t know about you guys, but I have my eye on the Turmeric Pineapple Coconut!
