Siri Now Knows How to Respond to Claims of Sexual Assault & Abuse

Apple has recently made some very important tweaks to the iPhone’s personal assistance tool, Siri.

If you were the victim of domestic violence or sexual assault, and you recently tried to talk to Siri about it, her answer would have been less than helpful. Her response, “I don’t know what you mean by ‘I was raped,'” was not well received by doctors participating in an investigative medical study regarding the assistance tool.

Now, if you were to tell Siri, “I was raped,” the assistance tool would give you the number to the National Sexual Assault Hotline and suggest you reach out.

This update stems from Apple’s recent team-up with the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network to figure out how Siri can best help in situations like this.

With Apple stepping up to the plate to make these improvements, the other companies cited in the study are expected to follow in their footsteps, according to Cosmopolitan.
