Ruth Bader Ginsburg is Publishing a New Book

Unintentional internet superstar and Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will have a new book out next January—her first since joining the nation’s highest court. Ginsburg, the second female justice appointed to the Supreme Court, is known for being a huge advocate of civil rights among race and gender. Simon & Schuster will publish a collection of her writings and speeches called My Own Words.

In a statement, vice president of Simon & Schuster Alice Mayhew said, “Justice Ginsburg is one of the most important and articular legal writers and interpreters in the country. She is also a witty and engaged writer and speaker, and I am personally delighted to have another opera lover on board.” According to the The New York Times, one of Ginsburg’s topics in the book will include the way operas portray lawyers and courts. She famously bonded with late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia over opera.

RBG will also cover other “wide-ranging topics, including gender equality, the workways of the Supreme Court, on bring Jewish…and on the value of looking beyond U.S. shores when interpreting the U.S. Constitution,” according to the Simon & Schuster statement.

Although Justice Ginsburg will write the introduction for the book, her biographers Mary Hartnett and Emerita Wendy W. Williams of Georgetown Law will choose which pieces to include and will write introductions for each section, Cosmopolitan reported. With the justice’s pointed opinions on civil rights and gender equality, the book is sure to be a hit everywhere among fans of this legal champion.
