Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Washington University issued a warning for students to go to a safe place on campus after a shooting was reported on the Danforth Campus. The campus was on a brief lockdown before it was lifted at around 3 p.m. local time.

All schools in Clayton, Mo. suspended recess and halted all outdoor activity for students. Students and teachers were advised to take caution, but everyone was dismissed from at their normal times.
A witness told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the female victim was shot in the arm before the suspect fled in a black SUV. Clayton police are cooperating with the Washington University Police Department to search for a suspect.
