Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Win Big in the New York Primary

Between Ted Cruz making fun of Donald Trump’s tiny hands and the heated debates of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, it’s safe to say that it’s been a pretty crazy campaign for the candidates—But, as always, voters tend to have the last word. New Yorkers went to the polls on Tuesday and voted for the candidates of their choice, giving Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump big wins.

Clinton’s win has made it even more difficult for Sen. Bernie Sanders to get a good lead, as her win just put her 139 delegates closer to being the Democratic party’s nominee. She now leads Sanders by more than 200 pledged delegates. Sanders had a string of wins throughout the Midwest, but that streak ended with Clinton’s victory in New York last night. The polls show that Sanders outperformed Clinton among younger voters but managed to slip behind with voters aged 30-49. For Sanders to catch up with Clinton, he would basically have to crush her in other largely populated states like New Jersey and California.

Donald Trump also proved that he has his home state locked down as he beat Senator Ted Cruz in the polls last night, holding on to his position as the front-runner of the Republican Party. Trump recently had a lot to say about the voting process when he claimed the election process was rigged after not receiving enough delegates in Colorado. But, following yesterday’s win, Trump seized the opportunity to throw a little shade at Cruz.

“We don’t have much of a race anymore, based on what I’m seeing on television,” Trump said during his victory speech. “Senator Cruz is just about mathematically eliminated.”

Trump is predicted to win big on April 26, the next Super Tuesday, when Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island will hold their primaries.
