Good morning, Her Campus! With a break-neck news cycle, there is no possible way for you to stay on top of every story that comes across your feeds—we’re all only human, after all.

But, life comes at you fast. So grab a cup of coffee and settle in for this quick and dirty guide to stories you might’ve been sleeping on (like, literally. It’s early.)

North Korea Says It Will Close Its Nuclear Test Site by May

In an announcement made Sunday morning, a spokesperson for the South Korean President Moon Jae-in said a nuclear test site in North Korea will be closed by May, Buzzfeed News reports. According to Jae-in's office, North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un has been vocal about his willingness to work with South Korea and the international community to close the site"

"The US feels repelled by us, but once we talk, they will realize that I am not a person who will fire a nuclear weapon to the South or the US or target the US," he reportedly told the South Korean President. "If we meet often [with the US], build trust, end the war, and eventually are promised no invasion, why would we live with the nuclear weapons?"

The announcement is historic, and only time, along with President Trump's upcoming visit to North Korea, will tell as to whether or not North Korea plans to follow through.

The NRA Convention Will Ban Guns to Protect VP Mike Pence

Well this is ironic: the Huffington Post reports that guns will be banned at this year's NRA Leadership Conference in Dallas due to an appearance by Vice President Mike Pence. The NRA announced the restrictions for the May 4 convention on its website over the weekend, saying there would be no firearms allowed prior to and during the convention, though "complimentary storage" would be provided for knives.

For obvious reasons, it wasn't long before this announcement prompted outrage from gun control advocates and survivors of the Parkland, Florida shooting who questioned why the NRA was willing to ban guns (at its own conference, no less) to protect the vice president, but wasn't willing to ban them to protect children in schools.
