We’re all used to Facebook implementing drastic changes in structure and layout, but recent additions to the site have some users worried. Now that Facebook’s stock is public, the company is more focused than ever on driving up profits to please investors, and they’re trying out new features to find new ways to do so, according to a report from Forbes.
You may have already noticed the “promote” feature, which prompts you to pay to push your status, pushing it to the top of friend’s newsfeeds. But that’s not all that’s new. Facebook is currently testing out a “Want” button, similar to the existing “Like” button, according to a report from Business Insider.
Reuters reports that the “Want” button is part of a larger push to commercialize Facebook. Facebook is working on a new feature called “Collections,” where users can browse items on the social media site and get linked directly to online marketplaces where they can purchase the items.
Although the “Want” button hasn’t hit mainstream consumers yet, reactions are mixed. Though it could increase Facebook’s profits, it is not expected to be popular with the average user. If people can’t even deal with the switch to Timeline or the addition of cover photos, how are they going to react to Amazon links embedded in their social media site?
So, what do you think collegiettes? Will the “Want” button make facebook into a new type of Pinterest, or will it ruin your favorite networking site? Let us know in the comments!
