It’s hard to believe, but according to Mashable, selfies have killed more people than sharks in 2015. So far this year, twelve people have died from selfie accidents while only eight have died from shark attacks. Cue Jaws theme music.

Sounds pretty crazy, right? The majority of these incidents occurred from people falling, but other issues include trains, animals and even selfies during the Tour de France. The lesson we can all learn from this is that activities that require a lot of attention (running with bulls, driving, etc.) are not ideal for snapping selfies. While getting hundreds of likes on a photo is cool, let’s get real—it’s SO not worth your life.

Many places are banning selfie sticks to prevent danger, and they may have the right idea. How far are you willing to go for the perfect selfie, collegiettes?
