5-year-old Alice Jacob is done with your gender role nonsense (also, same) – and as proof she’s serious about it, she decided to write a letter to Gap asking for more ungendered clothing options.
Alice’s mother, Beth Jacob, recently penned an essay for the Washington Post, saying that Alice has always loved dinosaurs, superheroes, and other traditional “boy” interests, which has made shopping for clothes a pain.
“Alice is a petite 5-year-old. She swims in clothing cut for boys – even the toddler sizes,” Jacobs writes, later adding, “As anyone who’s been in a major retailer recently can tell you, it’s slim pickings out there for girls who love Batman and Diplodocus.”
As such, in her letter to Gap, which she and her mother sent on March 6 according to Jacob’s essay, Alice asks Gap the hard-hitting question, “The boys shirts are really cool. They have Superman, Batman, Rock and Roll and sports. What about girls who like those things like me and my friend Olivia?”
She ends her letter writing, “Can you make some cool girls’ shirts please? Or, can you make a no boys’ or girls’ section – only a kids’ section?” Naturally, she also drew what looks like a female superhero at the bottom of the page, just in case Gap is (somehow) not convinced by her letter.
While Gap told the Huffington Post that they had yet to receive Alice’s letter, hopefully they’ll take her suggestions into consideration – we’re sure there are thousands of other 5-year-old girls out there who would take full advantage of having access to dinosaur and Batman T-shirts.
