Troian Bellisario is Working on a Film Based on Her Struggle With Anorexia

While we’re all ridiculously bummed about Pretty Little Liars coming to an end this year after seven seasons, it’s already looking like we won’t have to say goodbye to Troian Bellisa, a.k.a. Spencer Hastings, any time soon.

Refinery29 reports that Bellisario has written, produced and plans to star in a movie, Feed, based on her battle with anorexia several years ago. Bellisario is only just now getting a chance to work on the project, but it’s been eight years in the making – she actually wrote the script before starring in PLL.

While she says the film isn’t an exact copy of her experience, she told Rotten Tomatoes in a recent interview that she wanted to have the chance to make people understand what living with an eating disorder is like.

“It’s not the exact events, but what I wanted to do with the film was get the audience to understand what it sounds like and what it feels like to be struggling with that illness,” Bellisario told Rotten Tomatoes. “I struggled with anorexia for many years and one of the most difficult things about that was it was very tough for me to explain to my family and friends why it was so hard for me to disengage with that.”

In the past, the actress has spoken out about eating disorders and her own experience with anorexia – back in November, she came out in support of Hillary Clinton, citing the candidate’s views on mental health treatment and care.
