Taylor Swift (& Her Cats) Donated Over $15K To A Fan Whose Mom Has Been In A Coma For 3 Years

The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, ‘cause she’s graciously giving from her estimated $320 million net worth to fans in need.

Most recently, TSwift gave $15,500 to a 19-year-old fan’s GoFundMe to help her family with their financial struggles. The fan, identified as Sadie Bartell, detailed the story of her mother, who has been in a three-year coma, on her Taylor Swift fan Twitter account. Sadie, 19, and her older brother serve as the primary breadwinners for their family.

Sadie cited seeing a performance of Swift’s 1989 tour as her mother began her coma. “I’m grateful to Taylor for keeping me afloat through it all,” she said.

Taylor donated to Sadie’s GoFundMe without great fanfare. She made the donation on behalf of herself and her two cats, signing it, “Love, Taylor, Meredith, and Olivia Swift.” The page has now raised over $26,000 of its $40,000 goal.

Sadie thanked Taylor in an October 20 Facebook post, first detailing her fandom for the singer. “She shows up every time I need her. She always has and she always will.”

Though Taylor is often accused by critics of being greedy, citing her partnership with Ticketmaster making tickets to her shows ridiculously expensive, she’s been known to give charitably to fans. Last month, she helped an 8-year-old autistic fan named Jacob Hill purchase a service dog, and then invited him backstage after a Houston performance. In July, she gave tickets for her Reputation tour to a Massachusetts police department that had recently lost an officer while responding to a car crash.

Is there any wonder DoSomething.org named Taylor the Most Charitable Celebrity four years in a row? The good she does in the world raises the bar for other celebrities with distinct fan communities.
