Stop Everything: Zac Efron Will Star in the New ‘Baywatch’ Movie

Well, this should get us through the week—news broke yesterday that Zac Efron will play a leading role in Paramount’s Baywatch movie. Efron’s co-star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, announced this wise casting decision via Twitter.


Killing two birds with one stone, The Rock used the movie’s R-rating to up our excitement even more. He later reiterated his anticipation with this—ahem—inspirational ode to friendship:


And Efron had the most perfect response:


According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson will play a V serious lifeguard who teams up with a young and unruly guard (played by Efron) to save their beach from an ill-intentioned oil tycoon. Yeah, we’re stoked too. Unfortunately, it will be a while until this movie adaptation of the classic TV show is released, as production is set to begin in early 2016. That being said, we have a feeling it will look a little something like this:
