Growing up, you probably came across Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Only the very brave and very courageous have been able to read this book series (which is not me) and the stories continue to haunt to this day.

The re-imagined horror folklore, which captured the hearts of thousands of children, is now being turned into a really creepy live-action movie. Now, I am not one for horror movies, but this one looks AMAZING.
With director André Øvredal, who is best known for The Autopsy of Jane Doe and Trollhunters, and Guillermo Del Toro as producer, we already know this movie is going to be absolutely frightening. It will follow a group of teenagers who have to solve a series of mysterious deaths in their small town.
The poster for the film was released on Friday and it is horrifying to look at. On the cover is the beloved Harold, an evil scarecrow that SKINS his owner alive (reminder—this is a children’s book).

Scary, right? But wait, there’s more.
The first teasers for the movie came out during the Super Bowl. They were released in a series of 10 to 15-second teasers, rather than one long trailer, that told a different short story from the book. I could not sleep after watching these. Prepare yourselves.
The first one, “Big Toe,” is about a corpse on the hunt for his stolen toe. So gross!

The next one is “Jangly Man” and it’s a big nope from me, dawg.

The third is “Pale Lady,” and I think I may end up with nightmares for the rest of my life.

Last, but most definitely not least, is “Red Spot,” where a million baby spiders burst out of a bite mark on a girl’s cheek—an even bigger NOPE from me!
“What is that red spot on my cheek?” Mother said, “It will go away. Just don’t scratch it.”
