Mindy Kaling Actually Doesn’t Mind That Oprah Blabbed About Her Pregnancy

In case you were wondering how Mindy Kaling felt after Oprah Winfrey told the world that she was pregnant before Mindy herself had officially confirmed the news, turns out she wasn’t really upset. Rumors had been swirling that Mindy was expecting her first child, but Oprah was the first named source to officially say that she was pregnant.

Oprah was with Mindy at the D23 expo to promote their film A Wrinkle in Time when Oprah randomly shared the news. “That’s when she told me. My mouth dropped,” Winfrey told People“‘What did you just say?’ She said, ‘Oh, Oprah, I don’t think you know. I’m 5 months pregnant.’”

During the expectant mother’s appearance on The Ellen Show FridayEllen naturally brought up the fact that Oprah was the one to spill the beans. “You were going to keep it a secret, but Oprah opened her big mouth.”

“If anyone is going to announce big news about your private life, Oprah Winfrey is the person,” Mindy responded. “You can’t complain that much about it. And you can’t be like, ‘Hey, Oprah, zip it’—because she’s almost like a religious figure.”

Apparently Mindy never told Oprah that she wasn’t supposed to mention it either. “I think I learned a long time ago that it’s probably not a good idea to reprimand Oprah,” Mindy said. “At a certain point I was like, ‘You can’t take it back,’ so I thought, ‘You know what? There are worse things.'”

Plus, it’ll be a great story to tell her daughter (yes, Mindy confirmed she’s having a girl!). “If there’s one person I have to tell my daughter about that revealed her existence to the world, Oprah is pretty good,” Mindy said. Very true, Mindy.
