Matthew Lewis Has More to Say about Alan Rickman & Our Hearts Are Still Hurting

Although the beloved Alan Rickman passed away this past January, the loss is still very much felt, particularly by his fellow co-stars and colleagues. His passing was a shock for everyone and his fans, colleagues, and friends are justifiably still hurting.

In a recent interview for Fault Magazine, Matthew Lewis revealed how he heard of his colleague’s passing and the impact that Rickman left on him after he sought him out for advice.

Having paid his respects in a eulogy to the late actor, he recently disclosed further personal details of the sad occasion, having had more time to process the sudden passing of his friend.

Lewis was visiting the set of the highly-anticipated prequel to the Harry Potter series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with one of the producers of the film when he heard the unfortunate news.

“We were both just completely stunned. But also, to be in the studio when that came through, suddenly every room that I went into, every corridor that I walked down on, I suddenly remembered a story or an image of Alan,” Lewis recounted. “It got a bit odd. It was quite surreal. But also, powerfully moving as well. It was quite nice to be there. All those happy memories came flooding back and I got quite nostalgic actually.”

The pair had gotten together and shared a nice moment, which left a considerable impact on the young actor, following Rickman’s last day on the set of one of the Harry Potter films. “He just offered me advice in where I should go and he said some things to me that filled me with a lot of confidence,” Lewis said. “And when you hear those sorts of things from someone of his stature, his ability, it means a lot.”

With the full film series lasting nearly a decade, it goes without saying that Rickman had a significant impact on every person who work with him during that time.

Lewis added, “He inspired my career more than he ever knew and I’ll miss him.”
