Louis Tomlinson Holds Back Tears in First Performance Since His Mother’s Death

This past Saturday, Louis Tomlinson performed his new single “Just Hold On” on The X Factor finals. But it wasn’t a typical performance.

Just a few days earlier, his mother, Johannah Deakin, passed away at 42 years old from an aggressive form of leukemia. After Louis sang, he got a standing ovation. He then kissed his fingers and looked up, presumably to his mother.

Following the performance, Simon Cowell said to Louis: “Louis, I have to say something to you. I’ve known you now for six years. What you’ve just done, the bravery, I respect you as an artist, I respect you as a person, and you know, your mum is so proud of you Louis, and she was so looking forward to tonight. She’s watching down on you now.”

On Twitter, Louis described the performance as “harder than I ever imagined.”

We think he did a great job, and we love his new song!
