Kesha’s Supporters Buy an Ad Calling On Sony to Drop Dr. Luke

In the lawsuit between Kesha and Dr. Luke, the pop singer continues to fight to be released from the contract that binds her to her alleged abuser. Dr. Luke and his lawyers have repeatedly denied that he committed the acts he’s been accused of, and the court ruled in the producer’s favor. Based on the ruling, Kesha is locked into her contract, unable to leave Sony and escape from the person who sexually abused her.

Recently, Kesha filed an appeal against the New York State Court, but fans are hoping to raise awareness of the situation and convince Sony to give Dr. Luke the boot. Supporters have been spreading the hastag #FreeKesha for months, and now they are taking their support even further. A group called UltraViolet, which focuses on women’s rights, recently bought an ad on Pandora to further spread the message. In the ad, UltraViolet urges Sony to drop Dr. Luke by saying phrases like, “Sony can free Kesha and take a stand against rape culture” and “Tell Sony to drop Dr. Luke.” Pandora is used by many music-lovers, meaning this ad will reach an even greater amount of people.

The group’s co-founder, Nita Chaudhary, also released a statement to Teen Vogue elaborating on UltraViolet’s bold action. “Kesha has been struggling for years to be free from the influence of her abuser—and that struggle is still ongoing,” she said. “While reports from unnamed insiders have implied that Sony Music is exploring ways to cut ties to Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records, short of a public announcement from Sony Music CEO Doug Morris, only one thing remains true: Kesha isn’t free.”
