Celebrities: they’re just like us – besides the fact that every facet of their daily lives is documented for public viewing. While stars have learned to put up with the shutterbugs, some celebs feel that the paparazzi have crossed a line, especially when it comes to their children’s privacy.
Some celebs may not mind their kids being in the public eye, but not Jennifer Garner. Yesterday in Sacramento, Jen testified before the California State Assembly Committee on Public Safety, speaking on behalf of a proposed bill that would make it illegal for the paparazzi to photograph the children of celebrities without their permission.
“My three children are private citizens,” she asserted. “I love my kids. They’re beautiful and sweet and innocent, and I don’t want a gang of shouting, arguing, lawbreaking photographers who camp out everywhere we are all day, every day, to continue traumatizing my kids.” You tell ‘em, Jen!
In her testimony, Jen joined the ranks of Halle Berry, who publicly supported the anti-paparazzi bill in June and who also has repeatedly faced the threat of the paparazzi encroaching on her daughter’s private life.
Though newspaper publishers are concerned that the bill could prevent them from being able to do their jobs, we hope even more celebrity parents speak out in favor of Senate Bill 606. The stars may have known what they were signing up for when they chose this career path, but is that any reason for their children to have to be subjected to constant exposure as well?
