Hit or Skip: Rebel Wilson Movies

There’s only a couple of actors out there who can have you falling off your couch and rolling on your floor in a fit of giggles, and Rebel Wilson is one of them. Her quick charm and honest disposition light up any screen and leave you with a hefty dose of laughter. I took the liberty of highlighting which of her movies, in particular, are worth investing your time in, and which are not. Get ready for a movie night with one of these comedies, and the woes of being stuck inside will seem far, far away.

Hit: Isn’t It Romantic

A love cynic learns what it’s like to be trapped in a full blow romantic comedy. The movie snickers at every conventional rom-com, while providing a smart, non-clichéd storyline that leaves viewers both delighted and entertained.

Skip: The Hustle

Even with a star-studded cast and Wilson’s adorable antics, the movie seems long drawn out with no end in sight. The gender-swapped version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels adds nothing new to the storyline and leaves viewers yawning throughout. Don’t bother wasting 90 minutes of your time.

Hit: Pitch Perfect 1 & 2

Not only will the songs keep you entertained, but the fun-loving cast will light up your rather boring weekend. Both movies follow a young group of acapella singing college women and their road to success after recent humiliation. The compelling storyline with all the odd, yet very funny jokes will keep you entertained throughout, and may leave you with a new fascination for acapella.

Skip: Pitch Perfect 3

Unlike its predecessors, the third installment is kind of a snooze. The storyline seems nonsensical, and the characters come off as one-dimensional. Sure there’s still great music–and a few good laughs–but it doesn’t come even close to being as good as the first two installments of the franchise. Watch it if you’re a big Barden Bellas fan and can’t go without, but skip it otherwise.

Hit: How to Be Single

A great girls night movie that truly captures the trials and tribulations of dating in a contemporary setting. Sometimes being single doesn’t mean you’re lonely!

Skip: Cats

This recreation of the famous Broadway musical by the same name is an unfortunate cat-astrophe. Most of the CGI will leave you baffled and wondering why you decided to waste wine night on watching your favorite actors hissing and clawing at each other in glorified cat costumes.

Hit: Bridesmaids

This was, in my opinion, Rebel Wilson’s break out role. Even though she didn’t grace the screen for a very long time in this movie, her comedic timing created some of the funniest moments to watch. The plot, like the name, follows the journey of one misfortunate maid of honor and her fellow bridesmaids as they make their way to the wedding.

Now you’re all set for your next virtual girls night with the gang!
