Tired of picking something on Netflix, only to absentmindedly watch while scrolling through your phone? Then the new Black Mirror movie, Bandersnatch, may be exactly what you’re looking for.
The film centers on Stefan, a programmer who wants to create a computer game called Bandersnatch, inspired by a “choose your own adventure” novel that he read as a child. This perfectly ties into the biggest part of the film — the viewer’s ability to chose what happens next. Throughout Bandersnatch, Netflix presents you with options to decide Stefan’s fate, whether it’s what he eats for breakfast or something more serious that ultimately alters the ending of the film.

You only get 10 seconds to choose between options, and if you don’t select anything, a default section is made. There are five possible endings to the movie in total, and it can be finished anywhere from 40 to 150 minutes. According to Collider, Black Mirror creator and writer Charlie Brooker said that if you don’t make a single decision throughout the film, you’ll be presented with “the most basic version of the story.”
The interactive feature builds off of technology previously used for Netflix’s Puss in Boots: Trapped in an Epic Tale. Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter, Craig Parkinson, Alice Lowe, and Asim Chaudhry star in the film.
In addition to Bandersnatch, Black Mirror is reportedly still slated for an upcoming fifth season.
