The world can always use more women fighting the system.
Hulu’s original series The Handmaid’s Tale has just been renewed for a third season. The news comes very shortly after the release of the series’ second season, but it’s not surprising considering that the series has given Hulu its first Emmy, Golden Globes, and other prestigious awards.

The Handmaid’s Tale, starring Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss, Orange Is the New Black’s Samira Wiley, and Alexis Bledel of Gilmore Girls, is based on Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel of the same name but explores beyond the world Atwood created. Its set in a dystopian world called Gilead, where women exist in roles of servitude. Moss’ character Offred is a Handmaid, a woman whose job is to bear children for her “master.”
After Donald Trump was elected president and some of his and his supporters’ comments regarding women came to light, worried speculators began looking at The Handmaid’s Tale’s world of Gilead as a possible version of the future. Atwood talked to The Washington Post about making the story’s realism: “My rule for the book was, I didn’t put in anything that people hadn’t already done. And I think the series is following that rule, not putting in anything that is just a made-up thing. It’s all happened before.”
Hulu also announced other upcoming projects, including an anthology series based on the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral helmed by Mindy Kaling. All episodes of ABC’s The Good Doctor will also be available for streaming soon.
With Netflix dominating the streaming game, looks like Hulu is stepping it up! I’m excited to see what other content is on the way.
