Just last week, Panorama magazine published an interview featuring Italian designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, which revealed the couple’s feelings about same-sex families and in vitro fertilization. Their thoughts were controversial, to say the least.
Not only did the designers, who were formerly a couple, voice their opposition toward gay adoption and comment that “the only family is the traditional one,” but they also stated that children born through IVF are “children of chemistry, synthetic children.” Many famous fans of the luxury brand were quick to fire back. Elton John, whose two sons were conceived through IVF, took to Instagram to condemn the designers’ comments and vow to boycott the brand.
Ironically enough, John was spotted toting a D&G shopping bag just one day later, though his publicist claims the snap was photoshopped, according to The Independent. Gabbana responded earlier this week with the hashtag #boycotteltonjohn.
John isn’t the only celebrity to speak out about the statements made by the designers:

In the most recent turn of events, Dolce and Gabbana sat down with CNN to defend what they had said to Panorama. While they didn’t take back their original statements, the duo clarified that they were simply voicing their own opinions and not judging anyone who chooses IVF. Dolce added that the two “love gay couples and gay adoption” and that their comments were just “a point of view.” Dolce also cited his traditional Sicilian upbringing for his views on what constitutes a family. But should these personal thoughts and opinions have been kept to themselves?
